We have made applying for a research degree as simple as possible. You can apply by following these steps:

Once you have identified your research interests and a potential supervisor, you need to complete the application form and provide documentation to support your application. The information provided will be used to:

  • assess your suitability for undertaking a research higher degree with the university
  • investigate UQ’s capacity to provide you with an advisory team and research facilities
  • determine if there are adequate project funds, general infrastructure and support services available

If you wish to be considered for a competitive, merit-based scholarship simply indicate this on the application form. There is no need to fill out a separate application form.

Commencement in a research quarter is fixed to a specific period.

Australia applies sanctions to some countries and individuals in particular circumstances. It is recommended that international applicants review the information on UN and Australian Autonomous Sanctions to assess whether they apply to your project, before submitting an application.

Some schools or institutes may require you to complete an IP agreement as a condition of enrolment.

If we need you to provide additional documentation, such as a research proposal, we will let you know.

You may also be contacted to consider alternate supervisors or schools/institutes, particularly if you have not been in contact with your nominated supervisor prior to application. 

Once the assessment process is complete you will be formally notified of the outcome of your application.

If you have applied for a UQ scholarship you will be advised of the decision at the conclusion of the scholarship round.

If you receive an unconditional offer of admission and/or an offer of scholarship support, you are required to formally accept or decline the offer(s).
