Researcher biography

Ilaina is a PhD candidate at the School of Chemical Engineering of The University of Queensland. He holds a mining engineering degree from ESPA (Ecole Supérieure Polytechnique d’Antananarivo), the polytechnic school of engineering of the University of Antananarivo, Madagascar, and a Master’s degree in petroleum engineering from The University of Queensland, Australia. His current research explores the application of Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage to heavy oil reservoirs, particularly to those in the Tsimiroro heavy oilfield in Madagascar. The objectives are to optimise oil recovery and reduce environmental footprint of the petroleum industry by usage of CO2 to extract the oil from reservoirs and by storing CO2 within petroleum reservoirs so as to reduce GHG emissions in the atmosphere.

Ilaina’s principal advisor is Dr. Ayrton Soares Ribeiro.
