Ama Wakwella

Researcher biography
Ama is a PhD candidate researching environmental management at the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences. After starting her career researching land-sea relationships and coral reef ecosystems, Ama became fascinated by interdisciplinary conservation approaches. Through her future research, she hopes to utilise interdisciplinary conservation approaches to deliver multiple benefits for both human and ecosystem health. In partnership with the Wildlife Conservation Society Fiji (WCS-Fiji), Ama’s PhD investigates how watershed management in Fiji can be optimised to provide improvements in water safety, disease prevention and marine ecosystem health. To support her in covering this cross-disciplinary subject, Ama’s PhD advisors are Assoc. Prof. Carissa Klein, Dr Amelia Wenger, Dr Stacy Jupiter, Dr Helen Mayfield, and Prof. Colleen Lau.
