Researcher biography
I am a PhD student at the Faculty of Medicine, having completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science with Honours Class I at UQ in 2020.
I am currently focusing on the molecular mechanism of hepatic stellate cell (HSC) activation induced by chemotherapy in primary liver cancer. Previous studies have demonstrated the critical role of activated HSCs in tumour progression and resistance to anticancer therapies. Hence, activated HSCs have been used as a novel therapeutic target as primary liver cancer dose not response well to the conventional therapies. With a better understanding of the molecular mechanism of HSC activation induced by chemotherapeutic drugs, activated HSCs can be targeted more specifically and effectively. The project will identify the potential target of activated HSCs to improve the treatment outcome of primary liver cancer patients.
My principal advisor is Dr. Xiaowen (Tina) Liang and my associated advisor is Prof. Darrell Crawford.
