Researcher biography

Jed Calvert is studying microbial diversity within plants―the communities of fungi and bacteria that dwell inside leaves, stems and roots―in order to understand how plant-microbe interactions contribute to plant health. He is interested in seeing a transition to future agricultural systems that harness plant-microbe interactions in order to optimise crop yields and decrease energy-intensive inputs, and in learning more about the fascinating relationships that have formed between microbes and plants over evolutionary time. Outside of his microbiological studies he plays guitar, draws pictures and learns about ancient civilisations.

Jed's principal advisor is Dr Roger Shivas.
