Researcher biography

Junwei Lyu is currently a PhD student in Structural Engineering in School of Civil Engineering in UQ. He is constantly aware of the trend of global change and trying to respond to it from the perspective of civil engineering. Previous efforts includes building the first 3D-printing butterfly shell structure. His current research is also a reaction to the global trend of more and more frequent severe wind events. To protect the vulnerable coastlines from the potential storms and surges, he is now trying to design a very large floating artificial forest that can break the wind and the wave at the same time. Key parameters that control the performance of the floating structure will be investigated. Various configurations will thereafter be established and tested. It is expected that this structure will not disturb people’s life but minimize people’s loss from the severe storms both in life and property.

Junwei's principal advisor is Professor Chien Wang.
