Researcher biography
Patrick Junior is a PhD candidate at Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI), Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining (CSRM). Patrick has a master degree in Construction Project Management (Distinction) from the University of Manchester-UK, a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management (first class) from Makerere University-Uganda and a diploma in Building and Civil Engineering (Distinction) from Uganda Technical College-Masaka.
Patrick is an academic at Makerere University Uganda where he is employed in the College of Engineering, Art, Design and Technology (CEDAT), department of Construction Economic and Management.
Patrick has over 10 years’ experience in construction project management and has worked in sectors such as highways/roads construction, windfarm construction, hydropower dam construction and oil and gas explorations and development in East African region.
Patrick’s is researching on Development Minerals. Development Minerals are minerals and materials mined, processed and used domestically in industries such as manufacturing, construction, and agriculture. These minerals are also geologically known as low-value minerals and they include; construction materials, dimension stones and industrial minerals. This minerals subsector is mostly dominated by artisanal and small-scale miners.
Therefore, Patrick’s PhD focuses on how greater engagement of Artisanal and Small-Scale Miners of Development Minerals in Public Infrastructure projects in developing countries could lead to poverty reduction and sustained economic development.
