Researcher biography

Shastra Deo is a poet and editor living in Brisbane, Australia. She holds a Bachelor of Creative Arts in Writing and English Literature, First Class Honours and a University Medal in Creative Writing, and a Master of Arts in Writing, Editing and Publishing from The University of Queensland. Shastra is currently completing her PhD in Creative Writing—a project composed of a poetry collection and exegetical essay, both focused on the problem of long-term nuclear waste repository signs and the potential of myth for warning. Her first book, The Agonist (UQP 2017), won the 2016 Arts Queensland Thomas Shapcott Poetry Prize.

Shastra's principal advisor is Associate Professor Bronwyn Lea.
