Biswa Prasanna Mishra

Researcher biography
I am a PhD student at the Centre for Advanced Imaging in UQ. My study involves the structural characterisation of venom toxins, to have a better understanding of pain mechanisms in the human body. Currently used analgesics have regular and severe side-effects. My current research focuses on characterizing and developing novel and safe analgesic ion channel inhibitors from venom derived peptides to treat acute and chronic pain conditions. Besides, pain research and drug design, my other long term personal interest lies in plastic recycling and remodification. I am motivated to make planet earth absolutely plastic-free. When I am not thinking of the aforementioned two, I usually play basketball and snooker; or climb a mountain and do photography. I am also into heavy music and like banging the drums.
