Karla obtained her BSc. Degree in Biology summa cum laude from the Morelos State Autonomous University in Mexico. She did her honours at the Institute of Nanosciences and Nanotechnology in the University of Barcelona, Spain.
Some of the awards she has received include the Excellence scholarship for higher education in 2015, 2016, and 2017, the International mobility award from Mexico’s government, and the 1st place winner award in the Summer for Scientific research in Morelos.
Her PhD project aims to develop novel nanomaterials with the ability to diagnose and treat cardiovascular diseases and cancer in a non-invasive manner, reducing the side effects and limitations of current technologies.
