Applying new methods to understand pelvic floor function in men and women

Project opportunity

This Earmarked Scholarship project is aligned with a recently awarded Category 1 research grant. It offers you the opportunity to work with leading researchers and contribute to large projects of national significance.

We are seeking a PhD student with a background in biomedical engineering and/or biomechanics to join our team to work with our team to study the mechanisms of continence in men and women. We aim to apply new imaging methods and image analysis to better understand how continence is maintained and how this is impacted by surgery (e.g. prostatectomy in men) and ageing. The work will involve a multidisciplinary team. Projects will involve development of image analysis methods and the potential to apply these data to modelling of pelvic floor function in a health and range of conditions.

Essential criteria: An undergraduate degree with first or second class division 1 Honours in movement science, biomechanics, physiotherapy, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline; eligibility for admission to the PhD program at The University of Queensland; experience with Matlab for data analysis; excellent communication skills (written and verbal) in English.

Scholarship value

As a scholarship recipient, you'll receive:

A working knowledge of image analysis and modelling would be of benefit to someone working on this project.

The applicant will demonstrate academic achievement in the field(s) of biomechanics and/or biomedical engineering and the potential for scholastic success.

A background or knowledge of machine learning methods is highly desirable.

Latest commencement date

If you are the successful candidate, you must commence by Research Quarter 1, 2024. You should apply at least 3 months prior to the research quarter commencement date.
