Healing Spirit, Healing Minds: Co-designed healing program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth SEWB

Project opportunity

This Earmarked Scholarship project is aligned with a recently awarded Category 1 research grant. It offers you the opportunity to work with leading researchers and contribute to large projects of national significance.

This PhD project will form part of the Healing Spirit, Healing Minds project, which will co-design and evaluate a SEWB program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth. This project is lead by UQ School of Psychology in partnership with Beyond Blue and a multidisciplinary team of experts from across UQ, The University of Western Australia, North and West Remote Health, The George Institute for Global Health, and The University of Sydney. The PhD project will include a scoping review of existing SEWB and suicide reduction programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth. The project is otherwise flexible within the areas of SEWB, suicide risks, and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth.

Scholarship value

As a scholarship recipient, you'll receive: 

  • living stipend of $32,192 per annum tax free (2023 rate), indexed annually
  • tuition fees covered
  • single Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

A working knowledge of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander SEWB framework, suicidal risks, and resilience would be of benefit to someone working on this project.

The applicant will demonstrate academic achievement in the field(s) of psychology, Indigenous health, and/or related fields and the potential for scholastic success.

A background or knowledge of qualitative research methods, culturally responsive care, and trauma-informed approaches is highly desirable.

Latest commencement date

If you are the successful candidate, you must commence by Research Quarter 2, 2024. You should apply at least 3 months prior to the research quarter commencement date.
